The New York Times - How Texas Teaches History

This opinion column begins by addressing the controversy surrounding the McGraw Hill world-geography textbook and claim that African slaves had gone to the US to "work on agricultural plantations," then uses this issue to explore a seemingly wider problem - the way in which language is used in the retelling of history (specifically in Texas).  It is an interesting piece on the ways in which language can be specifically manipulated for a particular effect, and how that might shade or change the ways in which people respond to historical "facts."
